Summer

Okay, okay. Nothing since a long time. But it's summer and summer means hanging out with ponies and friend.
I started to ride Jet again, we're trying some new stuff. And I'm pretty busy taking em to the river, because they absolutely love it.

Buuuut yeah. I'm customizing. Sometimes but still, I'm doing it. Here's one of my current WIPs, a Newsworthy freshly started.

And there is a halter I made a few days ago. It fits bigger horses, like Palouse.

How I make saddle padds

Yo ! While I was making the saddle padd I showed you yesterday, I thought : "I should make a how-to!"

So the finished product isn't perfect, it's a prototype for me (plus, it's hand sewed, t'would be much better with a sewing machine).

First, you'll need a pattern and four parts (2x colored material, 2x some padding material, I use felt)

Mark the sewing pattern.

Time to sew !

Sew the pattern.

Once the pattern is sewed on both of the two parts, cut a long part of material.

With some pins, fix the long part of fabric on a padd's side.

Sew, then repeat the process with the other side.

It looks like that from the bottom.

To cover the exposed padding, cut another part.

Then, take your biais, fix it and sew it. It's simple to do, even if you don't know how to sew biais, try your way!

Once it's sewed, it's finished !

Here you are! With practice, it gets better. This one's the first I made.

Saddle and padd

Sooo. I made a saddle this week. With the help of Keriokie's book on making english saddle. Although it's still full of mistakes, I'm satisfied.

I'm sorry, had a problem with the pic. Couldn't change the orientation.

And so, tonight, I finished a saddle pad. It's hand sewed because I dont own a sewing machine, but I plan to steal my sister's sometimes. It's a bit small and full of mistakes, as the saddle is, but it's a prototype anyway, and it looks quite great when showed under a saddle and a rider.

And I now have a yellow set !!! It's my favorite color, in case you didn't notice.

Lead rope

Yo !

I showed you my rope halters few days ago, and one didn't have a lead rope. 

So I decided to fix that, and it took me approximately 5 minutes.

It has a bit of leather at the end, but the picture doesn't show it. And it's YELLOW !

I took the first custom I bought to show it. The horse is painted by Hauntedwood Corp Studio, owned by two very talented artists ; their specialities are the spotted coats. Although my custom isn't spotted, he's abslolutely gorgeous ; and oooh his dappleeees ! And his colooooor ! And his paintjooooob ! He's PERFECT. I love him. So much. He's a portrait of my real horse, Jet Silver Bar, a Quarter Horse gelding.

I couldn't resist that face, he was begging me to post this pic!

But of course, the model isn't as beautiful as the real Jet. *myponyisthebest*

Rope halters and something

Rope halter are quite the new fashion in the equestrian world. Besides the style, it's an interesting tool for groundwork (I'm not really for its use for riding, but anyway I respect people who do) so I've always made (or tried, anyway) some.

In little bit size, they happen to be too large. But in traditional scale, they look quite good. I've made two recently : 

The first one, multi-colored. I loooove it and he fits perfectly my ISH. The rope is a bit too large, though.

Recently I found a very interesting sort of rope ; I bought it in 3 different colors : yellow (of coure), red and green. I tried to make one and I like the result. It will be part of a set composed by a rope halter, a lead rope and a saddle pad (and I'm looking for some other stuff to add). These sets may be for sale in the future...

Last picture of this post : my first custom in traditional scale. It's a GG Valentine turning to a chestnut. Still a lot of work to do... but I like painting her and I'm happy on how she's turning. Hope I'll finish her right (and soon, can't wait to see her finished!)
